Agnitron Technology builds a custom SiC MOCVD tool for Notre Dame University; The mini-Agilis 50™
Agnitron Technology Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of the mini-Agilis 50™. More exciting is the initial version is a custom Agnitron mini-Agilis 50™-HT SiC tool for research and development. This will be going to Notre Dame University located in South Bend, Indiana. The demand for R&D of this important material is driven by growing industries such EVs, and the need for more compact, high-power components for military and space applications. The purchase of Agnitron’s latest tool, the mini-Agilis 50™-HT Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) system by the University’s Department of Electrical Engineering fosters a burgeoning partnership with Agnitron Technology. The tool provides a state-of-the-art platform to enable the exploration of this increasingly essential semiconductor material. The Agnitron mini-Agilis 50™-HT system delivers multiple, best-in-class capabilities that support research and development of a variety of semiconductor materials. The system purchased by the university will be configured for SiC but could be re-configured to explore other wide-bandgap materials for power devices. Agnitron will manufacture, install, and start-up the new system as part of the purchase of the tool by NDU. The tool can reach substrate temperatures up to 1750°C with excellent uniformity, a necessity for the growth of this material. Also, epitaxial semiconductor layers of this type, demand high purities as well as high growth rates. The Agilis brand tool, delivers both for dozens of laboratories around the world.
The university’s partnership with Agnitron will continue and build upon the cutting-edge materials developed at that university’s lab. This tool, in the hands of NDU, will enable the crucial, next-generation technologies the world desperately needs. The array of potential uses for these technologies is enormous and growing – electric vehicles, renewable energy solutions, next-gen cellular communications, and more. The team at Agnitron is honored to have been selected to work with the NDU Electrical Engineering Department.
