Agnitron Technology Partners with SVTA to Offer MOCVD-MBE Platform for Advanced Research

Agnitron Technology and SVT Associates (SVTA) have announced a technical collaboration to offer material science researchers an advanced R&D equipment platform combining both MOCVD and MBE reactors in an integrated system. This collaboration leverages the strong track record of both groups in the custom MOCVD and MBE equipment fields and has resulted in development of a unique combination of technologies designed with top growth performance and safety as foremost design focuses.

MOCVD and MBE processes differ in many ways, notably the vacuum and gas flow requirements. MBE processes require high vacuum and the corresponding infrastructure and subsystems to support this, such as advanced cooling, specially designed transfer chambers and low pressure vacuum pumps. In contrast, MOCVD equipment operates at relatively high pressures and thus pumping systems are simpler, relative to MBE. However, the fluid dynamics, advanced gas panel and injection schemes used in MOCVD applications are distinguished from MBE processes and equipment. Both have been proven to excel for growth of various materials and structures. The integration of these technologies is a new step to offer additional capabilities to researchers.

“The rapidly expanding fields of nanotechnology and material science require continually adapting equipment solutions to meet the processing needs of researchers. The integration of capabilities between Agnitron Technology and SVT is a natural progression in equipment technology and benefits researchers by leveraging the expertise of both suppliers,” according to Agnitron Technology Founder and President, Andrei Osinsky. Greg Carpenter, Senior Manager at SVTA commented that “In the past, attempts have been made by suppliers with experience in one field to integrate technologies from the other but with mixed results due to the uncommon set of competencies required to integrate MOCVD and MBE fields.” Osinsky and Carpenter both stressed that this is an exciting development for the research community as it will combine expertise from both fields to deliver highly capable equipment solutions.

Agnitron Technology and SVT Associates will both be exhibiting at the MRS Fall Meeting which takes place November 27 – December 2nd, 2016 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA. Agnitron Technology will be located in booth 832 and SVTA at booth 411 of the MRS exhibit. Visit both to learn more about this exciting new capability from onsite representatives.
